‘‘Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.’’
J.K Rowling
Hello, I’m Claire Donegan—a Recovery Coach, CBH Therapist, and Lived Experience Trainer. My journey has been shaped by a series of impactful life experiences, and it is through these experiences that I’ve discovered the power of storytelling, personal growth, and the healing potential of helping others.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a variety of organizations, both nationally and internationally, to help enhance and develop education, research, and support services in the gambling harm prevention and support sector. My personal connection to gambling harm, paired with my professional training and experience, fuels my passion for empowering others who have lived through similar challenges.
My Mission: Empowering Others Through Lived Experience
One of the core elements of my work is teaching people how to transform their lived experiences into powerful tools for change. I offer the Lived Experience Accredited Facilitator and Speaker Programme to help individuals, especially those in recovery, gain the confidence and skills to share their own stories. I’ve seen first-hand how sharing our experiences can create deep connections and inspire both personal healing and collective understanding.
Additionally, I deliver Gambling Harm Awareness Workshops, where I bring my own lived experience with gambling harm into the space. These workshops are designed to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and offer critical information on how to recognize and manage gambling harm, all while fostering an open and supportive environment for participants.
Why I Do This Work
The work I do is deeply personal. I’ve been through difficult times, and those challenges have given me insights that can’t be learned from textbooks alone. My own recovery journey has taught me that transformation is possible, and I’m here to help others who are walking similar paths.
Whether through coaching, workshops, or training programmes, my aim is to help people build confidence, learn new skills, and discover their own strengths as they navigate their recovery. I truly believe that we all have the ability to change our lives, and by sharing our stories and learning from each other, we can create lasting, positive change in our communities.
