Organisations

Extern Problem Gambling provide help to anyone on the island of Ireland who has been impacted by gambling harms - whether through their own gambling or that of a loved one. Services include one-to-one Addiction Counselling, Recovery Coaching, a dedicated Women’s Service (EmpowerHER Recovery Network), Group Support Meetings, The Problem Gambling Podcast, & a Stop Gambling App.

Cuan Mhuire is Ireland’s largest provider of Residential Addiction Treatment Services. They run a 12 week gambling specific programme which includes Group Therapy Meetings,

Individual Counselling,

Mediation and relaxation therapies,

GA Meetings, and Family Meetings.

Aiseiri provides addiction treatment for adults and young people who are struggling with alcohol, drug and gambling addiction. Their centres are based in Wexford, Cahir in Co. Tipperary, Ballyragget in Co. Kilkenny, and Waterford City. They use a 12 Step approach to recovery, both through residential and community services. Aiseiri also cater to young people between the ages of 15 and 21.

Dunlewey Addiction Services provide free and confidential advice, counselling and helplines for individuals over 18
who have been directly or indirectly affected by gambling-related problems in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

 

Helplink Mental Health operates a free, national gambling addiction counselling service, 7 days a week and out-of-hours: online or by phone.

Family Resource Centres: There are a number of FRC’s throughout the country who provide a community-based model of family support for the person struggling with their gambling, and their families or friends.

Turas Counselling Turas is a not-for-profit addiction counselling service based in Dundalk, Co. Louth. They offer one-to-one counselling, group therapy, and a Recovery Cafe.

The Rutland Centre provides both residential and non-residential counselling support for individuals experiencing gambling harm.

Peer Support Programmes

Gamblers Anonymous: Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop gambling. Meetings are held in person all over the country and also online. A list of all meetings can be found on their website.

SMART Recovery: SMART Recovery supports individuals who have chosen to abstain, or are considering abstinence from any type of addictive behaviors (substances or activities), by teaching how to change self-defeating thinking, emotions, and actions; and to work towards long-term satisfactions and quality of life. Meetings are held both in person and online.

EmpowerHER Recovery Network: ERN is a peer led programme specifically designed to support women on the island of Ireland who are experiencing harm from their own gambling. The service offers one-to-one recovery coaching, group support, and a dedicated toolkit to help navigate the recovery journey. The service is currently only available by online.


Self-Help Tools

Gamban: Gamban helps those suffering from gambling-related harm to take control of their addiction by blocking access to gambling websites and apps.

RecoverME App: RecoverMe is a mobile health application designed to help those who suffer from a gambling addiction using CBT based tools.

Stop Gambling App: The app is the first of its kind, in the world, to provide support with text-chat interactions from experts in the field of gambling addiction recovery.

Bet Blocker: Bet Blocker restricts access to gambling websites and apps. It is a free tool for those wishing to restrict access to gambling on their devices.
